I've been away for a long time. I've been posting here and there, but nothing I think is substantial. Been a little rough the last few months, seriously.

I told myself if 'Hatchling' made it into Spectrum 15, I would draw a gift for myself. So, here we are. Its been a couple of months and I finally got around to it. She is a counterpart to that image, although complexion and environments are intentionally more majestic. A matriarchal alien like society. I plan on doing the Queen herself eventually after a few sci-fi environments that have been itching under my retinas the last few weeks.

Completely done in Painter X. I used a ref for her knee positioning. My sister was nice enough to sit while I drew. Nice time to share a drink and catch up.

Oh! If you have a chance, there are steps, closeups, walls and personal info on this piece on my site blog. Please visit if you can.

Milk Hatchling

First, I realize I am blind. There is a milky film across my eyes when I've finally awaken. The leathery surface binding my body is slick with a yolk-like substance which smelled sour combined with a honey residue as an aftertaste. It took several more minutes, heaving it from my stomach, blowing it from my nostrils, and now, the lingering phlegm in my mouth, stubborn as I try to spit. I couldn't get it from my eyes. This terrible feeling and texture coating my sight, irritating the backs of my lids like a dry and tattered cloth-quite irritating, that.

I rose unsteadily and blinked, trying my best to use this new body to steady myself. A slight queasiness returned, but only erupted in dry heaves. My stomach was empty and my throat raw and sore, yet I felt full from this now broken egg. First of the newborns it seemed, the other larva still not quite ready. I thought the sickly feeling was returning, but instead a burning desire to suckle stood in its place.

Alongside the ice chippers on deck, the rope bearers, and the brave (although quite foolish) lighting engineers, Philippe and his crew sought to bag the deadliest genetic mishap and thorn in their crabbing seasons side to haul back (in many pieces mind you) to their shores.

Philippe’s bowels turned to water. He’d long grown his sea legs, but even the most seasoned fisherman wouldn’t be able to stand the conditions he faced now. His hands shook with the rise and fall of adrenaline and fear. “He will be disoriented once blinded, thrashing madly for an approximation of 10 minutes where then he may finally appear sedated.” the oceanic biologist explained before they set out on their expedition. “Then, and only then, can he be subdued and ultimately killed.” Special lights, of unknown wattages, were secured to the decks and masts of their boats. Their weight and clutter of wire did nothing to help the deck hands and navigators; even their trustworthy boats moaned beneath the additional burden-the heat they emitted even showed defiance to the biting cold. “Oh, I almost forgot. Whatever you do, make sure he is not cornered. I cannot say this enough!” The biologist fidgeted, obviously showing reservations.

That’s when things got interesting…
I plan on doing Marvel and various other game characters in similar fashion... but thats in a laundry list of things while I daydream at work.

I uploaded this a while back, but decided it needed an overhaul and I added 10 more hours into it and removed the background for more of a conceptual appearance.
